It was the pursuit of taco-perfection, that sent our founder Phil on a road trip across Mexico, where he discovered the ancient aztec recipe that gives corn tortillas their unique flavour. Phil returned to Ireland and found a home for the Blanco Niño Tortilleria in the beautiful county of Tipperary.
To create tortillas like the aztecs make them, just in Ireland, we use only the best non-GM white & blue sustainably grown corn. The corn is cooked then steeped over 16 hours before grinding into a dough (masa) using hand-carved volcanic stone grinders. This process is called nixtamalisation, a Mexican traditional technique going back thousands of years. Our products are naturally gluten-free and have zero added preservatives and artificial enhancers.
Blanco Niño has become an established and reputable food service business, producing and selling a range of the best soft and frying tortillas across 13 countries in Europe. Wahaca, one of the leading authentic Mexican restaurant chains in the UK recently switched to Blanco Niño due to the increased quality and authenticity of their offering.
The next step for us is to turn awesome corn tortillas into incredible tortilla chips. We want to bring the incredible flavours of Mexico together with our best-in-class tortilla and create proper tortilla chips. In 2019, we’ll be launching a crowdfunding campaign – watch this space!
